General Motors Protection Plan

Your car or light truck was built to exacting specifications. We are confident in its reliability, but local climate, road conditions, and normal vehicle usage often cause even the best components to fail occasionally. The GM Protection Plan is your safeguard against costly vehicle repairs and provides peace of mind while you're on the road. When you're protected GMPP Total 'Plus', both parts and labour are covered, you pay only your deductible, if any, for covered repairs. The GMPP Total 'Plus' coverage provides the highest level of repair cost protection available, as well as the many benefits of the GM Roadside Assistance Program. GMPP Total 'Plus' is the ultimate option for your GM vehicle.

Do I need a vehicle service contract?

Most likely you'll own or lease your vehicle beyond the manufacturer's base warranty. Unexpected repair costs can be costly, not to mention the difficulty of being without your vehicle. GM vehicle service contracts can reduce the hassle and inconvenience of a breakdown or repair by providing:

  • Coverage of components against failure, even if it results from Normal Wear.
  • Roadside Assistance (Total 'Plus'), offers towing service and lock-out service.
  • Road Service Allowance (Custom and Powertrain), towing and road service with a fixed limit.
  • Alternate transportation or rental when the vehicle is tied up for repairs that require at least two (2) hours of repair time.
  • Quality repairs by a GM dealer without excessive paperwork and unanticipated expense.

Not only will the GM Protection Plan minimize or even eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for covered repairs, your GM dealer will handle the claim, so you have no paperwork.

What Other Benefits Do I Receive With GMPP?

GM Roadside Assistance
GMPP Total ‘Plus’ provides additional ‘peace of mind’ convenience by offering 24 hour assistance for lost of locked-in keys, flat tire changing, out-of-fuel emergencies, jump starts, and even provides a lodging and meal allowance in the event your vehicle breakdown leaves you stranded out of town! GM Roadside Assistance is equivalent to a CAA membership, the only difference being that Roadside Assistance covers the vehicle, and anyone driving it, as opposed to individual coverage. Your GM Roadside benefit also provides you with personalized trip planning service to any destination in Canada and the U.S.

Rental/Alternative Transportation Allowance
A $40 per day allowance is provided by GMPP Total ‘Plus’ to help cover the cost of a rental vehicle or other form of transportation. This allowance is made available while your vehicle is in the shop for covered repairs that require at least 2 hours of shop labour time, or that make your vehicle inoperable requiring it to be held overnight. This benefit is subject to a $200 maximum.

‘Wear Out’ Coverage
GMPP improves with age providing coverage to parts and assemblies that simply wear out. It is this unique feature that makes GMPP even more valuable, particularly as your vehicle ages. Outside influences such as local climate, road conditions, maintenance intervals, even driving habits, contribute to strain and ‘wear’ on your vehicles components. A few examples of parts that simply wear out are piston rings, ball joints, water pumps, and alternators. This ‘Wear Out’ Coverage applies to parts and assemblies covered by GMPP Total ‘Plus’. It does not apply to non-covered or maintenance items such as brake shoes, pads, shock absorbers, etc.

Transferable Coverage
GMPP can increase the resale value of your vehicle. If you sell your vehicle before the GMPP coverage expires, the remaining coverage may be transferred to subsequent owners at no charge.

Loyalty Trade-In Benefit
If you decide to trade-in your vehicle at a GM Dealer, you may request that the unused portion of your current GMPP coverage be applied to a GMPP purchase on your next vehicle. This feature is only available at time of trade in.

Whats not Covered by GMPP Total ‘Plus’

GMPP Total ‘Plus’ is an optional service contract providing you with financial protection from costly breakdowns that could happen to thousands of your vehicle’s mechanical and electrical components. Examples of these include body and sheet metal work, as well as repairs or adjustments to glass and upholstery, tune-ups, engine oil and filter changes, and replacement of routine items such as shock absorbers/struts, brake pads/shoes, exhaust pipes, wheel alignments and wheel balancing. Certain parts and services not covered by GMPP may be covered other warranties provided by General Motors. Ask one of our Business Managers for a more specific list.
