Certified Pre-Owned vs. Used Vehicles

Pre-Owned Vehicles

What is the difference between used and certified pre-owned? While both are technically “used vehicles”, CPO vehicles in particular must meet certain criteria in order to be labeled “certified pre-owned”. Learn more about CPO vs. used vehicles with the help of Mike Jackson GM before visiting us in the Wasaga Beach area to take a test drive!

CPO vs. Used Vehicles: Buying Used

Used vehicles offer a wide range of options because they don’t need to follow the rules of the GM CPO program. They can also be from a variety of different brands from different model years. Because of this, you can usually find plenty of affordable options if you are on a strict budget.

Because vehicles can last well over more than 200,000 km these days, you can often find a higher mileage vehicle that’s still in good shape. However, because used cars aren’t regulated by a program, you will want to be careful that you aren’t making a risky purchase. It’s best to get your hands on a Vehicle History Report when you buy used. If a used car seems like a good option for your Barrie commute, be sure to take a look at our used vehicle specials before making your decision!

CPO vs. Used Vehicles: Buying Certified Pre-Owned

What’s the difference between used and certified pre-owned vehicles? The biggest difference is that CPO models must pass a rigorous inspection before being sold. If the vehicle passes inspections as directed by the manufacturer, then it can be sold as a certified pre-owned model on our lot.

Interested in driving home to Meaford in a CPO Chevy, Buick, or GMC? Here are some of the details of the GM CPO program:

  • Each vehicle in the program is backed with a Certified Pre-Owned Manufacturer Warranty
  • Before being sold, every vehicle must pass a 150+ point inspection
  • Owners will have access to 24-hour roadside assistance for 3 months or 5,000 km (whichever comes first)
  • Owners have the option to exchange their CPO vehicle within the first 30 days or 2,500 km if they are not satisfied with their purchase

In short, CPO models are usually newer model year vehicles with fewer kilometers on the odometer. Because of their enhanced condition, they typically cost a bit more than traditional used cars — but they do offer added peace of mind and additional perks.
